'''RuneScape''' is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by [[Jagex]]. The game originally began as an experiment in 1998, where over the next three years it was developed until the original public beta was released in 2001. When the game got its remake in 2004; the original was renamed RuneScape Classic.

RuneScape involves '''building a character''', '''levelling up skills,''' and '''selling items in the RuneScape world'''.

==Story==
RuneScape takes place in the fantasy-themed realm of Gielinor; no overall plot exists, although quests and NPC interaction reveal conflicts within the world.

==Selling items in the RuneScape world==
RuneScape has an active economy based around tokens referred to variously as coins, gold, gold pieces (from which comes the abbreviation GP), or gp. Unfortunately, the economy is in chaos, as there is no tax system and no limit to the number of coins in circulation.

Common abbreviations for money (note 1 can be replaced with any number):
*1 gp = One gold piece
*1k = One thousand gold pieces
*1mil = One million gold pieces (somewhat rare)
*1bil = One billion gold pieces (very rare, the result of getting really, really lucky at the barrows)
*1tril = non existent, as the max gold pieces you can have is 2 billion, unless this is in the form of many party hats.

==Scammers, hackers, and macros==

===Scammers===
Scammers are people who'll try to trick you out of your items.
====Quick switch====
With the quick switch method, they will quickly switch in an item that appears to be like the one you wanted. This can often be done with coins being switched from something such as 200'''K''' to just 200.
====Armor Trimming====
The armor trimming scam is an old one, but people still fall for it every once in a while. The scammer will say something along the lines of "Free armor trimming" and wait for someone to trade them their armor then log off. You can simply report anybody who says this.
====Alt F4====
This scam involves someone saying to drop your items by saying that if you drop your items and press Alt+F4 it will double them or do something of the like. The only thing this will do is drop your items and close your active window, usually runescape. By the time you log back in, you'll have lost the items and the scammer will have picked them up.

===Hackers===
In runescape, people refer to password thieves as hackers. Although there are a few people who literally hack your computer through a trojan with a keylogger, that usually never happens
====Password block====
OLD INCORRECT INFORMATION
''In this case, somebody will say something like "Jagex blocks your password see ******** try it!".
The censor in fact '''doesn't''' your password even though it only makes sense for it to.''

NEW CORRECT INFORMATION
Passwords '''ARE''' now actually blocked since the latest runescape update, 24th April 2007.

RuneScape takes place in the fantasy-themed world of Gielinor; no overall plot exists, although quests and NPC interaction reveal conflicts within the world.
====Under-cover Mod====
Here, somebody with a normal account will tell you that you need to give them your passwords or else you'll get banned. This is fairly obvious that it's a hoax, so go ahead and report them. Some people have variations of it saying that they can make you a member if you give them your passwords also, which is once again a hoax.
*'''NEVER''' use your password on any website except the ruinscape login page. Don't use it anywhere else, not even on another website account.

===Autoers===
Autoers are people who'll keep their characters online with help of a computer macro program. These programs are almost always written by the player him/herself since most online ones are really keyloggers and trojans. If you plan on doing it, never download one from the internet.
*Autoers usually have default clothing and odd names. They are also usually level 3.
*Not everyone thats level 3 is an autoer. Sometimes you may find a level 3 skill pure.
*Autoers follow a very specific path. Unless they have an anti-random exploit in them, they'll be killed when they receive a random.
EXAMPLE:
Macro: *Starts chopping*
Tree Spirit: Leave these woods and never return!
Macro: *Keeps chopping and dies*
Real_player: *Reports Macro*
== Other facts ==
The most ever players recorded on RuneScape at one time is 280,000.
RuneScape has a number of servers in different countries, each of which can host up to two thousand players. This allows for a massive amount of social interaction.
Every holiday season, Jagex inserts a seasonal update into the game. For instance, in Christmas 2005, it was possible to gain bobble hats and striped scarves, which would now be worth hundreds of thousands GP if if were able to be sold. The rare items of holiday drops that were tradable are now worth many million GP. Jagex now makes the holiday items untradable to stop people from making money too easily off them.
