When you do that, you will be prompted to select a campaign. There are three campaigns to choose from: The Den of Corruption, a remake of the original Monsters Den; Den of Terror, a new campaign; and Fall of Tellunos, which is basically like survival mode. There's no right choice, of course; all of these campaigns are worth trying out. If you're a beginner, I would suggest that you play Den of Corruption first, but that's a matter of personal preference and retrospect.

After choosing a campaign, you can choose your party of adventurers. You have seven classes to choose from (note that on some sites, playing as a Conjuror is not available), and you can choose four adventurers. You can choose more than one of the same class if you feel like it. Strategies for choosing your party are more fully discussed in Party composition.

Welcome to this guide on Monsters Den: The Book of Dread! This is one of the best turn-based strategy Flash games around, and I hope you come to enjoy this game. This walkthrough will deal with the most recent version of the game, 1.8, which is only available on Kongregate. This guide is perfectly fine to look up for older versions as well, such as the one on Armor Games; there are a few special items in the Kongregate version not available anywhere else.

When you start the game you can choose to play the game, change the options, or view the credits. Options are discussed on the next page. Clicking on "Play Game" will send you to a place where you can access your saved games. If you haven't played this before, or you want to create a new game, just click on one of the slots to begin a new game.

If you're playing one of the Den campaigns, you will be able to select difficulty and modifiers. This is discussed more thoroughly in the main Campaign page.
