The overhead map of the Japanese track.

The Japanese track is located in the top-left of the track selection screen, so if you are using MAME to play the game and have not held "9" and pressed "F2" to calibrate the steering, you will not be able to select it; its timer will also start out at 70 seconds.

When that counter appears on the screen and is counting down from "03" to "00", you should be in low gear with the gas pedal fully down; as you accelerate away from that starting line and pass a grandstand for Canon/Epson on that left side of the track and a billboard for Namco, Amusement Creator on the right side of the track, you should shift into high gear at about 100 km/h, then turn to the right as you pass two more billboards with an arrow pointing to the north-east on them on the left side of the track. You will then have to turn to the right again as you pass two more billboards with an arrow pointing to the curved north-west upon them on the left side of the track, then turn to the left as you pass two more billboards with an arrow pointing to the curved north-west on them on that right side of the track, an eighth billboard for Pirelli on the left side of the track and four trees on both sides of the track - and once you've done so, you'll have to turn to the left again, as you pass a ninth billboard for Champion on the right side of the track, before passing under a bridge for Pirelli (its second appearance on this track), then pass two more billboards with an arrow pointing to the north-west on them on the right side of the track. You then have to turn to the right as you pass two more billboards with an arrow pointing to the north-east on them on the left side of the track and a fourteenth billboard for Kenwood on the right side of the track, before passing under another bridge for Bridgestone, then turn to the right as you pass a fifteenth billboard for Shell on that right side of the track, along with two more billboards with an arrow pointing in a left "U"-turn on them on both sides of the track; once you have done so, you will have to turn to the left, as you pass an eighteenth billboard for Canon (as with Pirelli, this is its second appearance on this track) on the right side of the track, along with two more billboards for Ford and Pop 84 on that left side of the track. You will then have to turn to the left again, as you pass two more billboards with an arrow pointing to the north-west on them on that right side of the track, three more trees on both sides of the track, two more billboards with the arrow pointing to the north-west on them on the right side of the track, two more trees on the left side of the track, a twenty-fifth billboard for Boss Men's Fashion on the left side of the track and three more trees on both sides of the track before passing under a third bridge for Mobil 1; once you have done so, you will have to turn to the left again as you pass five more trees on both sides of the track, two more billboards with an arrow pointing to the north-west upon them on both sides of the track, two more trees on both sides of the track, and a twenty-eighth billboard for Goodyear on that right side of the track, before passing under a fourth bridge for Shell. You will then have to turn to the right as you pass two more billboards with an arrow pointing to the zigzagging (not curved) north-east on them on both sides of the track and three more billboards for Casio on the left side of the track - and once you've done so, you'll have to turn to the left as you pass a twentieth tree and two final billboards for Mobil 1 (as with Pirelli and Canon, this is its second appearance on this track) and Agip on the left side of the track. Once you have completed a full lap of the track, the text "TIME EXTENDED LAP TIME XX.XX" ("XX.XX" being your lap time) will appear on the screen, and you will gain 35 additional seconds to try and complete another lap; once you have completed four laps of the track, another woman will wave a chequered flag in front of your car as it races away into the distance, and that text "OFFICIAL RESULT" will then appear on the screen with your position (1st-8th) below it. The distance you travelled in metres, your number of laps, your fastest lap time and your ranking will then be displayed below that - and if your total time was less than 2:47:81, the game will go into "best-time" mode, so you should enter your name (only up to three characters as opposed to the five you could enter in the original game) on the Japan table with pride. Once you have done so, the game will go back into attract mode.
