Controls[edit]

  • Left dpad or Right dpad: Press left or right on the direction pad to make the player walk in either direction. Pressing up or down has no function in this game.
  • A button or B button: Press either the A button or the B button to make the player jump. The player can only jump the height of one block.
  • Start button: Press Start to enter the save select screen, the select a save game to continue with, and to pause the action mid-game.
    • Left dpad or Right dpad: Press left or right to scroll the screen and view the entire level while the game is paused.
    • Select button + Down dpad: If you feel you have entered into a state where you cannot solve the stage, and would like to sacrifice one of your lives in order to start over, pause the game and press Select and down on the direction pad.
  • Select button: Press Select to change the chosen gender of the player at the title screen. Doing so will toggle between the blue "METTOMAG" title screen for a boy player to the red "MATTOMEG" title screen for a girl player. Aside from the player's gender, nothing about the game changes beyond the appearance.

Players[edit]

Depending on whether you start the game from the blue title screen or the red title screen, you will play through the game as the boy shown on the left, or the girl shown on the right. They both play identically to one another. Their one and only goal is to collect all of the magnet orbs in the level, and escape through the exit located somewhere in the stage in order to reach the next stage. There are 100 stages in all. At all times, the player adopts one of the magnetic poles, either North (indicated by blue) or South (indicated by red). The polarity of the player determines how he or she will interact with the surrounding environment. Sometimes one polarity is required to get through a particular portion of the stage, as the opposite polarity will cause the player to become stuck. The exit can only be accessed once all of the magnet orbs have been collected, so the order in which they are collected is usually rather important.

Elements[edit]

Magnet Orbs[edit]

Orb Name Description
North Sets the player's polarity to North.
South Sets the player's polarity to South.
Reverse Switches the player's polarity to the opposite of whatever it currently is.

Stage items[edit]

Boy Description Girl
Blue arrows present a North magnetic force in which ever direction the arrow is pointing. This will repel players of North magnetic polarity in that direction, or attract players of South magnetic polarity in the opposite direction.
Red arrows indicate the presence of a South magnetic force in the direction that the arrow faces. They will repel players of South magnetic polarity in that direction, or attract players of North magnetic polarity in the opposite direction.
These are the goals for every player. In order to get them to open, the player must collect each and every magnetic orb in the stage. Getting the exit to open is one thing. Reaching the exit is an entirely different matter.
Magnet blocks are able to slide left and right, and are either attracted or repelled by the player, depending on the polarity of the block and the player. If the player is the same polarity (color) as the block, the block will be repelled away from the player. If the player is the opposite polarity, the block will be attracted toward the player.
Collect these bonus prizes for 2500 extra points each at the end of a successfully completed stage.
Whenever these items are collected, the bonus timer automatically resets to a full 49,999 points.
Collect these bonuses to be awarded a bonus player at the end of a successfully completed stage. If you fail to complete the stage, the bonus is not awarded.
In some stages, the only way to successfully collect every magnetic orb, or reach the exit goal, is to make use of these teleporters. Boys use a very technological looking device to teleport from one place to another, while girls use the magical mirrors to get around. Teleports can only be used in one direction, and cannot be taken to return to the original area.

Enemies[edit]

Boy Description Girl
In some stages, you will encounter these small enemies that move back and forth over an assigned area. They dash toward the player whenever one sees them. If the player touches them, they will not be killed, but they will lose a small amount of bonus points which are awarded to them at the end of the stage.
These bigger enemies are similar to the smaller enemies mentioned above, with one notable difference besides their size. The bigger enemies fire bolts of electricity at the players. Once again, these bolts do not kill the player, they merely stun them and cost them bonus points.
These enemies are free to float about the room, and bounce off of objects at forty five degree angles. Like other enemies, they cannot kill the players, but every touch removes a huge amount of bonus points from the remaining timer, so it is best to avoid them at all costs.
These enemies are quite a bit like the first enemies, in that they pace back and forth over an assigned area. However, they do not dart ahead when they detect the player. When they get close enough to the player, they punt the player away, pushing him or her back several blocks, possibly into danger.
