Pins are Neku's means of attacking in battle. There are 304 different pins and no two are exactly the same.

Pin Basics[edit]

Tin Pin Slammer[edit]

Other than the battles and item trading you can do with pins, you can also use pins to play Tin Pin Slammer!

The controls are simple. Simply slide the pin to where you want. Be careful of how much you charge your shot, though.

The goal of the game is to get the highest PP score. The way to do that is with knocking the other pins off the stage or stunning them with whammies! Stunning gets you 1 PP and knocking out pins gets you 2 PP.

Whammies:

  • Stinger (Right/A): You turn into a giant spiky ball for an amount of time. Any pin that rams into you will get stunned.
  • Dive Bomber (Up/X): Your pin jumps up and you have to touch where you want it to go; the pin will land at the crosshair. Any pin you hit will get stunned.
  • Hammer: (Left/Y): Your pin sprouts a hammer and any pin you hit will get stunned. The length of the hammer and the speed at which it moves depends on the pin, though.
  • Hand (Down/B): If you fall off, use the Hand to get back on the stage! Do note that if you wait too long, the Hand won't activate and you'll lose a pin.

Note: Hammers are trash and just use a full deck of ¥500 yen pins. Perfect for any hard Tin Pin battles you might face.

Gatito Pins[edit]

The majority of Gatito pins cannot work by themselves (or be obtained in the main story). Also, obtaining them is either an easy buy (if you're lucky to get a rare pin in a shop in your file), or a tiring effort to obtain. Gatito pins work in groups, and so, once each pin is with the rest of the pins in its group, it'll start working its magic!

Darklit Planets: This group consists of the pins Black Mercury, Black Venus, Black Mars, Black Jupiter, Black Saturn, and Black Uranus. To obtain these pins, you have to fight certain noise on Ultimate Difficulty. One particularly hard pin to get is Black Mercury (if you were unlucky). You'd have to defeat a noise which is not only rare, but resistant to almost every type of attack. You can use each pin by themselves, but if you put them all in the same deck, pin efficiency is tripled. If you give Neku clothes that put him in mortal peril (that also boost his stats), you'd be able to make him the strongest he can be in the game!

Eden: This group consists of the pins One Jump From Eden, One Skip From Eden, One Hop From Eden, One Step From Eden, and Eden's Door. You can buy One Jump From Eden from WildKat, but the rest you have to evolve with battle PP. Do note that Eden's Door can be evolved, and if you do, it evolves back to One Jump From Eden. (Fun fact: In the Japanese version, Eden's Door evolves into a measly 1 Yen pin!) To master all the pins, simply give them shutdown PP. The Eden pins have the special ability Holy Field.

Irregular Note: This group consists of the pins Swift as the Wind, Hushed as the Wood, Fierce as the Flame, and Stalwart as the Mount. To obtain these pins, you have to defeat the Game Master bosses (and Anguis). Once you've gotten these pins all in the same deck, they start moving around on the screen. Tap one of the pins and a Force Round will shoot out of it and it'll move to the next pin, creating something like a web attack. These pins are probably the only way you can defeat positive and negative resistant Noise effectively.
