Future templates[edit]

Based on the blog of the Computer Role-Playing Games Addict.

Based on pen-&-paper role-playing games[edit]

Traveller: 1978 - 1991

Buck Rogers: 1982 - 1992

Bandor: 1992 - 1994

The series is made of shareware titles, all based on Dungeons & Dragons: Forgotten Realms games, all developed by Don Lemons.

  • Bandor I is a Gold Box clone;
  • Bandor II is just a remake of the previous title;
  • Bandor III was advertised, but never released;
  • Shadowkeep 1, third of its name, is a demo for the next game;
  • The Infernal Tome is a Dungeon Master/Eye of the Beholder clone.

Starflight (lineage): 1986 - 1992?

  • Crossovers:
    • Star Command is a standalone crossover (by SSI) with Traveller (character creation) and Phantasie (same authors and similar combat engine).
    • Star Control 2 is, quite obviously, a game from the Star Control series with many elements from Starflight.
    • Planet's Edge is a standalone crossover (by New World Computing) with crew creation and space travel from Starflight, but planet exploration and plot structure more reminiscent of Star Trek.

The Magic Candle: 1986 - 1993

Trazere: 1989-1994

Ishar: 1990 - 1994

The Dark Eye (Das Schwarze Auge): 1991 - 2017

The best-selling tabletop role-playing game made in Germany.

  • The precursors are made by the same authors of the Northlands Trilogy. Die Drachen von Laas is a text-adventure in German only. Spirit of Adventure uses the same engine as the next three games.
  • The Northlands Trilogy was released in the mid-Nineties.
  • The second Dark Eye series was released after a 10 years hyatus. The games are developed by new teams.
  • The spin-off games by Daedalic use the Dark Eye setting, but not the rules of the tabletop role-playing games.
  • The game Drakensang Online is unrelated to the series.

A good offence is the best defence, therefore:

  • In the NES port of Dragon Quest 1, name your character "K".
  • In the GBC port of Dragon Quest 1, name your character "AAAH".

Given the amount of grinding in this game, just forget about that 10% more magic points growth.

=== Street Fighter X Mega Man ===

All this has still to be verified.

  • Unlocking Akuma and Sagat

To unlock Akuma try:

  • 4 or less perfect victories in the first 8 fighters, but NOT Boxer or Claw
  • 3 or less perfect victories in the first 8 fighters, PLUS Boxer (or Claw)

To unlock Sagat try:

  • 4 or less perfect victories in the Teleport System, but NOT Boxer or Claw
  • 3 or less perfect victories in the Teleport System, PLUS Boxer (or Claw)

  • Important Password:

4 victories (Blanka, Rose, Rolento, Urien), 3 perfect ones, 4 E-Tanks

This password allows to easily unlock Akuma, if you get one further perfect victory (e.g. against Dhalsim or the Boxer?); furthermore, it allows to maximize the number of E-Tanks, because the four stages containing E-Tanks are still to be cleared.

The password was obtained by collecting the 4 E-Tanks without beating those four stages.

Appendices[edit]

Scientific classification of Pokémon[edit]

From a taxonomical point of view, there are 76 Pokémon species, instead of 151.

What the Western translations of the videogames call "evolution" is actually growth from young to adult. Also, what is called "species" in the videogames is actually a life stage, e.g. young, cocoon or adult.

Of all the Pokémon species, the vast majority is inspired to real animals existing in nature, and they can be classified according to Lynnaeus method. Note that Lynnaeus lived one century before Darwin and the formulation of the scientific theory of evolution (Note also that "scientific theory" means "set of correlated theorems").

NOTE: Strictly speaking, "Invertebrata" is not an animal phylum, but a term of convenience including all phyla except for chordata. Here, it is used to group all the few animal pokémons that are neither Chordates/Vertebrates nor Arthropodes.

  1. Mammals should have only two arms and two legs, but after all Machamp is a mutation.
  2. Mammals and birds are the only animals that do parenting.
  3. Mammals are the only animals with external ears.
  4. Mammals are the only animals with external ears.
  5. Insectivores are the only poisonous mammals in nature.
  6. Reptiles have no external ears, but on the other hand "saur" is a Greek term meaning "lizard" or "reptile".
  7. Reptiles, including turtles and tortoises, have no external ears in nature.
  8. Long tongues are typical of reptiles like chameleons.
  9. Magmar is a cross between a duck and a salamander, and salamanders are amphibians, although it is commonly thought that they are reptiles.
