Jason[edit]

You are in control of Jason, the archaeologist who has accepted the responsibility of restoring the kingdom of Balubalouk. To do so, Jason must explore six particular ruins, looking for old cultural items that will help Jason gain access to the five hidden pieces of the Aura Star that once protected the kingdom. Jason can jump, and he has a limited arsenal of weapons at his disposal. His primary method of attack is illustrated below. Jason cannot withstand contact with any of the ruin inhabitants and must avoid touching them at all costs. Jason will also lose a life if he touches fire or lava, or other fire obstacles that he encounters in certain treasure rooms.

Attacking[edit]

The primary method of attack is a four step process, which is illustrated below.

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4
Maneuver Jason beneath an unused platform. Press A button to make Jason jump and hit the platform with his head. A weapon will appear on the platform. Now jump up to the platform and stand in front of the weapon. When an enemy is within range (approximately four blocks in either direction), jump up and trigger the weapon to fire in both directions.

Trigger weapons will destroy all enemies within range, and will only disappear when the range is exhausted. Jason can prepare as many platforms as he likes before using triggering any of them. Note however that if you prepare platforms from the bottom to the top, you may inadvertently trigger several of the lower platforms while jumping up to the higher platforms. Therefore, if you are going to prep many platforms in advance, you should do so from the top to the bottom.

Menus[edit]

When you enter huts found throughout each of the ruins, you will be presented with a menu through which you communicate with the inhabitant. The menu selections translate as follows:

Japanese English Purpose
はなす Speak Initiate a conversation or acquire more information.
おわる Finish Terminate a conversation and exit a hut.
はい Yes Respond in the affirmative to a question, purchase or sale.
いいえ No Respond in the negative, or refuse a purchase or sale.

Status Bar[edit]

The status bar at the top of the screen indicates a couple of things about Jason's current status and item possession. From left to right, they are:

  • Aura Star pieces: On the left, you will see any of the Aura Star pieces that you have collected so far.
  • Gold: How much gold you are in possession of, which is used to purchase items such as magic keys.
  • Magic Attack Item: How many of a particular magic attack item you are in possession. You may hold at least one, and no more than the number of star pieces you own.
  • Keys: How many keys you are in possession of. Keys are used to unlock treasure chests, one chest per use.
  • Parts: Ordinarily this is displayed as アイテム (for items), and indicates how many archaeological items you have, such as tablets, scrolls, or magic keys. You may not hold more than 6 at a time. If you possess the magic key for the current dungeon, it will show next to the number.
  • Special Items: You may only possess one special item at a time. Special items are used to access the hidden room in which a star piece is held. Without the correct special item, you cannot access a particular dungeon's hidden room, even if you are jumping in the right location.
