Veilstone City
Veilstone City

Veilstone City is the home to Gym Leader Maylene. Team Galactics main HQ and warehouse are also found here. The city also has Sinnohs Department Store and Game Corner.

To progress the story it is recommended to go to the gym first which is in the southwest corner. Outside the gym you will find Lucas/Dawn who will say that you are getting stronger and that he's working on his Pokédex which is a lie since he was in the Game Corner. After the talk he then runs off and you can head into the gym.

Cobble Badge[edit]

Veilstone Gym

Maylene is a fighting trainer. Her gym is set up so you have to face all of the trainers here and its a puzzle where you have to slide yellow walls to be able to get to Maylene. You will need to go to the top of both the left and right areas before you can go through the center.

Flying and Psychic types are good against this gym, Flying type being the better one since Meditite is also a Psychic type. Also, using Fire attacks will work well on Lucario, since it is a Fighting/Steel.

With the Cobble Badge in hand you can now use fly and luckily for you you can get it in the same city if you follow the below instructions.

Once done here head outside then Lucas/Dawn will say that they dropped their Pokédex and Team Galactic picked it up. They then ask you to help them at the warehouse in the northwest corner

Entering the warehouse[edit]

Before heading to the warehouse there are a few items to pick up on your way. Just outside the gym is a man who will give you TM63 Embargo. Inside the second house next to this man is a clown who will give you a Coin Case which holds you coins that you get from the Game Corner

Once you pick up those items head on over to the warehouse to meet up with Lucas/Dawn. When you get to the warehouse, Lucas/Dawn says that Team Galactic won't give back their Pokédex and wants to fight them in a double battle

Once you beat the Grunts they will head inside the warehouse. Follow them into the warehouse where you see a Grunt who remembers you from the Valley Windworks. Besides that, there is HM02 Fly and that's the only thing you can get in here.

Go back out and explore the city to do some shopping at the Veilstone Department Store, sightseeing at the meteorites and gambling at the Game Corner. If you don't want to explore the city then head south to Route 214 to resume your journey.

Items[edit]

  • TM63 Embargo - from man outside gym
  • Coin Case - from clown inside 2nd house next TM man
  • HM02 Fly - Inside warehouse
  • Tiny Mushroom (hidden)(DP) - to the left of the warehouse after you exit it the first time

To get coins here you can go to the counter and exchange 1,000 for 50 coins or 10,000 for 500. The latter is a safer option so you don't have to go back and forth. You can also talk to various people in the building to get some free coins.

The slots mechanics are very different in Sinnoh but you can win coins quicker if you get the bonus round. The first is where you put in 3 coins by pushing X button x2 and the slot will start to spin. Instead of pushing one button three times to stop the spin you now have to push Y button, B button and A button. The chances of winning are low unless a Poké Ball appears on the bottom screen. This is a random chance that 4 different kinds of Poké Balls show up: Premier, Great, Ultra and Safari. With these balls you get a guaranteed win of 2 cherry Poké Balls for 40 coins (Normal Poké Ball), 3 replays which is a spin again for free (Great Ball), 3 Pikachus for 10 coins (Ultra Ball), 3 of the same random symbols (Premier Ball), and 3 moon Stones for 15 coins (Safari Ball).

To get to the bonus round you need a Clefairy to come out of any of those Poké Balls and then get 3 Team Galactics or 3 7s. There are also 3 kind of Clefairies which can affect the chances of multiple bonus rounds, Ditto transformed(less chance), normal(no effect) and shiny(higher chance). In the bonus round you have to follow the Clefairys directions for 15 spins, it will point left for Y button, up for B button and right for A button. The only time you should not follow the directions is when the moon above the Clefairy turns red as it might make Clefairy fall asleep and end the bonus round at after your 15 spins are done. If you get 10+ consecutive bonus rounds then you will get a free TM64 Explosion from the woman behind the desk.

Unlike other regions, the Coin exchange for prizes doesn't have any Pokémon but it does have a wider range of items and TMs. The most notable TMs are Pyschic, Ice Beam, Flamethrower and Thunderbolt. Great TMs to get this early on in the game so I suggest saving up and getting them.

The first floor aka the Trainer Zone is like a Super Poké Mart as it has everything that a regular Mart has plus better versions of the Potions, the Poké Balls, and other ailments.

The lady to the left of the entrance will give you a mask of the starter Pokémon that is weak against your starter Pokémon which is used for contests.

The man at the bottom of the desk will give you the Pokétch app called Counter which counts the amount of steps you take. This is a helpful app for hatching eggs.

The bottom cashier has the best offensive TMs for Fire, Electric, Grass, Ice, and Fighting types as well as Hyper Beam. Definitely buy these TMs sooner than later.

The fifth and final floor aka the Rooftop Plaza has a vending machine that will give you one of three kinds of drinks. Also, a man in front of the elevator will hand you a Sticky Barb.

Be sure to compare Super Potions to Lemonade. Lemonade is a way better deal since it costs half of that of a Super Potion and it restores 30 more HP than it does! Stock up and save!

Meteorites[edit]

Ever noticed the meteorites around Veilstone's western side of town? If you have Deoxys in your party, touching one of the stones will change its form. The middle rock turns Deoxys into its Normal Form, the one above that into the Speed Form, and the two below that, from left to right, turn it into the Attack or Defense Form.

Pokémon groomer[edit]

The house right next to the gym you will find a massage girl/groomer who will massage your Pokémon once a day and find a free accessory for contests. These massages raise your Pokémon's happiness.

These meteorites change Deoxys' form when you touch them.
